With pick 149, their first of two picks in the 5th round, the Eagles selected Dion Lewis, a running back from Pittsburgh. Lewis is 5’8, 195 lbs.
Lewis has good athletic ability, and is quick and elusive. He hits the hole fast, which is a trait the Eagles look for in their running backs. Lewis is very small, and hasn’t shown any ability to be able to block. He doesn’t appear to have enough upside to develop into a special player.
The Eagles needed to add some depth at the running back position in the event that they lose either Jerome Harrison or Eldra Buckley whenever free agency begins. On paper, Lewis strikes me as a smaller version of former Eagles third round pick Ryan Moats. That doesn’t bode well for his future here, but we’ll see.
